Design Process

In my first year of Sixth Form for the subject of media studies we were given a brief to produce a film trailer or opening sequence using video. The first thing I did was choose that I was going to produce a film trailer with a similar genre to Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels.
The first design process I went through was watching trailers for films such as Snatch, Lock Stock and Layer Cake. I compiled a list of generic conventions that both film trailers and this particular genre, shared in common. These were simple things such as sharing small snippets from the film, creating enigma codes, not giving away too much of the story and most of all making the audience want to come and see the film.
We created a questionnaire at this point to ask our target audience what they would want to see in a film of this genre. We looked at the responses and from here brainstormed some ideas that we thought would be quite good.
The next design process involved creating a plot for the trailer and sketching out a rough storyboard. This allowed me to have down on paper my ideas of where I wanted it to go. The storyboard allowed me to then show my ideas to target audiences to receive feedback and constructive criticism.
With an idea in mind we then looked at the film industry, researching in depth as to how this film would fit in on the movie scene. I looked at promotion and which producer and distributor would be best associated with this film.

This is the final film trailer that was put together for my AS Coursework in Media Studies.

The basic plot is 3 less than intelligent criminals doing small petty crime are given a chance to make it as big criminals. They have to break into a high security building and the trailer outlines this basic plot with the use of lively music and comedic actions.
